Since 1963, Palace Construction has been a cornerstone of Denver’s building community. For Dominique Johnson, Senior Project Accountant, that mission isn’t just words, it’s a daily reality she has witnessed over her 26 years at Palace. “Our biggest market is affordable and senior housing because we understand the importance of providing that to our communities. We also do a lot of renovation work in schools. Palace cares about its clients and  its employees, which is why I’ve been here for 26 years.”

When Billing Bottlenecks Held Back Growth

Before converting to GCPay in 2018, Palace relied on Procore’s billing= module. While a step up from paper, it quickly showed limitations. Dominique recalls, “At the time, it was better than paper. It allowed us to go digital, which was nice, but it didn’t integrate with our accounting package, so we were still manually entering all subcontractor billings. It was very time-consuming.”

The lack of integration created financial risk. “If we issued a change order to a subcontractor, they could bill for it whether it had been executed or not. And subs could overbill line items or contract values, which just wasn’t sustainable as we grew and took on larger jobs.”

Choosing Control, Integration, and Efficiency

As Palace expanded, the need for a connected, efficient billing solution became urgent. Integration with their ERP was critical. Dominique explains, “When we saw GCPay, it checked every box. It was user-friendly, affordable, and had the controls we needed. It handled stored materials the right way. It was everything we were looking for.”

GCPay offered more than automation, it provided confidence. Approval workflows and built-in safeguards gave Dominique and her team the

When Palace implemented GCPay, the results were immediate. “Something that literally used to take me a full day now takes just a couple of hours. The difference was significant,” Dominique says.

With GCPay, just three accountants now manage billing for all of Palace’s construction division projects, even as the company continues to grow. “Without the efficiencies of GCPay, there’s no way we could handle the volume we do today. It allows us to do more with fewer people. It makes the work easier for everyone.”

Subcontractors Onboard, Quickly and Easily

GCPay simplified billing for subcontractors too. Most were already familiar with the platform, and for those who weren’t, onboarding was straightforward. Dominique notes, “Now, almost every subcontractor we work with already knows GCPay. For the few who don’t, onboarding is simple. And if they have questions, GCPay support helps them right away.” Support, she says, is what sets GCPay’s apart. “Honestly, my favorite thing about GCPay is the support. I send an email, and the response is immediate. Our subs feel the same way, they get answers quickly, which keeps projects moving.”

Maximizing Growth without Growing Headcount

Billing at Palace is no longer a bottleneck, it’s fast, accurate, and manageable. “The biggest advantage is capacity; we can take on more projects without adding staff. Billing time isn’t grueling anymore, and that makes everyone’s day better,” Dominique says. GCPay hasn’t just streamlined accounting, it has empowered Palace Construction to grow without adding overhead. “We’ve been able to handle more projects, both in number and dollar value, with the same small accounting team. That simply wouldn’t have been possible without GCPay.”
